“It was a bad choice” – ‘Special player’ unhappy with transfer to #WatfordFC
In January 2018, #DodiLukebakio@20lukebakio left Belgian club Anderlecht and joined #Watford, where he signed a four-and-a-half-year contract
The winger made only one appearance for #TheHornets last season, when he came on as a substitute for the last 15 minutes against West Ham United.
He sat down for a lengthy interview with Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad and admitted the limited playing time in the first few months at the club showed why it was not the right decision to join the #PremierLeague outfit midway through the last campaign. “ #WFC bought me as a long-term investment, but I did not realise that. It was a bad choice, since that transfer took place in the winter. That’s not a good time for a transfer,” #Lukebakio explained.
The 21-year-old join #FortunaDüsseldorf on a season-long loan deal before the start of this campaign and the #Bundesliga do not have the option to sign him on a permanent transfer later in the summer.
Lukebakio, who explained why he wanted to go out on loan, revealed that he had offers from Belgium, but #Watford1881 blocked his transfer to those clubs. “But I am a special player. I am capable of [overcoming] very difficult things I thought. I had to prove myself in training and thought there was a chance. I had a lot of hope. I did not think my chances would be limited to 15 minutes against West Ham,” he said. “Watford did not want to loan me last summer. That is why #Fortuna#Düsseldorf did not receive a purchase option. “The trainer apparently counted on me but after what happened last season, I was not convinced. I had to play somewhere. “I heard that Club Brugge and Anderlecht wanted me perhaps, but Watford did not want me to go to Belgium. It had to be a competition with the rhythm of the Premier League.” Lukebakio has scored 11 goals and registered three assists for Fortuna Duesseldorf in all competitions.

#WatfordFC loanee #Lukebakio unlikely to stay at #Düsseldorf amid #BVB and #Gladbach interest
#FortunaDüsseldorf@f95 coach #FriedhelmFunkel doesn't think the club will be able to keep #Watford loanee #DodiLukebakio@20lukebakio who has reportedly drawn interest from #Dortmund and Gladbach
Dodi Lukebakio has been a revelation since joining #Fortuna Düsseldorf on loan from #WFC before this season
Fortuna sporting director Lutz Pfannenstiel has said the club hope to keep Lukebakio, who has scored 11 goals this season, but the club's head coach, Friedhelm Funkel, admits the 21-year-old is unlikely to stay "You can't hold on to him. In this regard, I'm a brutal realist. It would be a dream if he stayed. But I can't imagine that he will," Funkel told Sport Bild
According to Sport bild, it's also unlikely that the winger will play for #Watford1881 next season. Apparently, Hoffenheim, Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Mönchengladbach have all targeted the 21-year-old who has expressed a huge desire to play in the Champions League
#TheHornets want at least €20 million for Lukebakio, Sport Bild understands. That means that he'll probably be too expensive for Hoffenheim, but it's a fee that Dortmund would definitely be able to pay. The same goes for Gladbach, provided 'Die Fohlen' manage to qualify for the Champions League
Lukebakio has made 22 appearances for Fortuna Düsseldorf this season with 11 goals and three assists to his name. His contract with Watford runs until 2022

- Topklubs jagen Lukebakio -
