First marathon in the books. Having never run more than 16 miles, but having a full distance Ironman in 7 months, I needed to know if I can mentally handle running a marathon. The first 16 was just like I had practiced. I stuck to the plan of pacing, nutrition and hydration and all went well until mile 18 when I hit an emotional/mental wall and had to call the wife for a break. 3 min call while I walked helped greatly. This was also the time that I began to have taste bud fatigue. Luckily they had Gu Salted Caramel on course to change up the SiS citrus and CarboRocket grape nutrition. At mile 19 my first of 4 blisters popped...talk about a weird feeling. After the second one popped on the other foot a mile later, I had to change my gait, cadence and form. The last 6-7 miles was not fun. If I had applied anti chafe to my feet i may have had a reputable time. Regardless, this wasn’t about time. It was (1) checking the box on 26 miles, (2) seeing where my emotional/mental wall was, and (3) was my nutrition and hydration plan on point for 26.2 miles. I learned a lot and am thankful for a group of friends (@joel_strickland_fl @ewkenny7059 @coursonpartyof5 and many others) that helped encourage and bring this to fruition. I broke down when I saw the “Mile 26” sign. The second I crossed the finish line, I was ugly crying worthy of an Oscar nomination 🏆 . . Last year, my training just never panned out. With an injury last March, the passing of my mom in April, then our dog a few months later, I really struggled to get my shit together. . Thank you, thank you, thank you (as @angielopez10 would say❤️) to my husband for being my biggest supporter and putting up with my crazy highs and lows. Thank you to my coach @beckispell for believing in me. I 💯 % trusted my training and was ready to show her what I could do on race day. Thank you to my incredible yoga teachers @angielopez10 and @jcruzsloan for keeping me injury free, relaxed and focused 🧘🏻♀️ A huge thanks to my wonderful friends and family for loving me and encouraging me from start to finish and everything in between. Thank you to @262withdonna for organizing the most spectacular event (especially grateful for that flat course 😉) 💕 . Our team had an amazing time racing to FINISH breast cancer 💓 Marc Burget accomplished something nothing short of amazing - he ran 84 miles at a 8:23 pace on Saturday and then finished 26.2 in a time of 2:59:18 on Sunday, placing 1st overall in the Donna 110 Ultra Marathon! What an amazing race! Only a minute off my personal record and a course record for me...I’ll take it. Maybe I shouldn’t have stopped for those drinks...but thank you Christa for bringing me Red Bull (and vodka) on the course....you’re always there for me! It’s been kind of a shit week and all I wanted was to get out there and run it all away. Between finding out my grandfather passed, work stress, and crappy people, I just needed this long run to meditate. I did it! I’m ready for Tokyo! Now if I can just get rid of these tan lines from today. They aren’t cute!

No regrets. Almost thought of dropping this morning. So glad I didn’t. As I thought, I’m only trained for about 9-10 miles right now, so things got rough for the last 5K. My foot is still a mess. 💗👣💥1 Year ago I was nervous, excited & about to lace up for my FIRST MARATHON at @262withdonna I remember how excited I was at the start, how unpredictable the race was, the crowd, the support, the pain, the finish line finally greeting me, and collapsing into my dads arms and the tears running down my face that I had actually finished despite excruciating pain, coming in 5th Female OA in my first marathon, a sub par time I thought and a lot to learn as a new marathoner. This year, I’m taking a much needed break from spring competition for RUNNING & I’m training for my first 👙💥🍑💪🏼 bikini #npcbikini show in April so I’ll be watching, cheering and praying for all of you running tomorrow AND ALL MY LOVELY CLIENTS RUNNING!!!!💗💗💗💗💗👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👣👣👣💯 RACE DAY ADVICE- Don’t focus on the watch the first half, relax, settle in and breathe. Enjoy the ride and trust your training. Take fluids and gels at appropriate practiced times in race. Fluids every chance you get, last year it was so unexpectedly HOT and HUMID. Be prepared but don’t psyche yourself OUT.
