As you have likely heard, there was a recent study in JAMA (Zhong et al.) that found an association between cholesterol and egg consumption and increased cardiovascular disease risk and death. (And yes, it's an observational study and we can't draw causation.)
Interestingly enough, this study adjusted for a lot of different factors - including caloric load and the quality of the diet - and still found higher-risk. So, do you need to ditch the eggs? Ehhh.... maybe.
One of the big limitations of the study was that they used a single food frequency questionnaire to characterize the subjects' diets. Food frequency questionnaires are self-reported food intake and are known to be error-prone. We really aren't good at estimating intake, particularly without a lot of education and practice. And over a median follow-up of 17.5 years, they used a single questionnaire. So, it's probably not that reflective of the diet over that entire period.
I have some additional criticisms (adjusting for caloric intake is good, but would be more ideal to adjust for whether the caloric intake was appropriate or excessive for one's need), but it doesn't change my conclusion.
Eggs and cholesterol-containing foods can be part of a healthy diet. Excess fat and cholesterol relative to one's needs, and particularly in the context of a nutrient-poor diet, is a problem.

FAT MAKES YOU FAT
How many of you have heard this statement before? You are what you eat, right?
So what’s the deal with fat then? •
Like any other macronutrient (more to come on what macronutrients are), it is important to get a certain amount of it, but overeating any of the macronutrients will cause you to gain weight. Why? Because you’re not expending those extra calories that you’re eating. •
Fat is a molecule that’s most important function is making cell membranes for your cells to undergo alllllllll of the different mechanisms needed for us to live (aka metabolism). In other words, FAT IS LIFE. You literally need fat to live. •
Secondly, fat is the precursor to making hormones!! HORMONES, PEOPLE! The chemicals in our body that carry out pretty much everything like allowing our kidneys to filter our blood and excrete toxins out through our urine or making testosterone and estrogen for our reproductive system to function properly. •
Why am I telling you this?
Because there is an extreme misconception that fat is unhealthy. Finding balance in your diet and avoiding overeating is what will help you maintain weight, if not lose weight. But the point here is EAT A VARIETY OF FATS EVERYDAY. •
My program is designed around clients eating balanced meals without doing tedious counting calories. I teach you the importance of eating varieties of fats, carbs and proteins to ensure you’re getting exactly what your body needs to function, and not just function, but also at a high capacity. •
WARNING: Having a high functioning body/metabolism is subject to you feeling more energized, improving quality of life, building confidence, and much much more :)

10 Reasons I Will Never Give Up Fruit or Orange Juice by Cheryl Frost, Part 3:
Faster Fat Burning / Stable Blood Sugar.
“Fructose limits insulin secretion, but intensifies metabolism, burning Calories faster” Dr Ray Peat PHD. Starches found in rice, bread, pasta and potatoes are the only carbohydrate that contains no fructose. Fructose is more favorable for fat burning and starch more likely to be stored as fat.
Insulin is not released for fructose to be utilized by cells. It is in the presence of insulin that fat storage occurs.
“Fructose inhibits the stimulation of insulin by glucose, so eating sucrose in place of starch will reduce the tendency to store fat”. Dr Peat.
Steven Guyenet, biochemist, Ph.D. Obesity researcher reports “fruit is not fattening and may in fact be slimming”.
“Eating fruit does not contribute to fat gain but instead favours leanness”. http://wholehealthsource.blogspot.com.au/2012/02/is-sugar-fattening.html
The day that I concluded that sugar favoured fat burning over fat storing would have had to be one of the best days of my life!
