Long hectic days will happen and sometimes will stretch for an extended period of days and even weeks. These holiday weeks are definitely challenging to find the time to fit workouts into a already packed schedule. Last night was the first workout under the direction of Coach Mike @mikerunsidaho, my first formal running coach. He is the #TeamHylands running coach and a total badass athlete. Think West Coast to East Coast and then another time Northern border to Southern border. He’s also completed The Hardrock 100, one of the toughest 100 mile races on the planet. Did I really want to give him an excuse about not having 30 mins on a Tuesday for an easy run for his first prescribed workout? The answer was clear, at 9:30 in the evening when I got home, I was going to immediately changing into running clothes and get out the door, otherwise once the butt hits a chair, couch, or bed, it would all be over, like an unraveled yarn of thread. As I was about to leave, I jokingly asked my son Parker if he would like to come run with me for 30 minutes, he said “sure”. I did a double take as I asked again, “Are you sure?”, he repeated, “sure, why not”. I questioned no more and immediately told him to throw on some long pants a long sleeve, gloves and hat because it was barely above freezing. Off we went for an easy father and son run for my first workout on my #roadtoboston. My first entry last night into my training schedule for Coach Mike was not an excuse on why I couldn’t, but of a completed session with my son, because he said why not. I would love more why nots in my life. #BostonMarathon#hylandspowered#marathontraining#winterruns#inspiredrunner#fatherandsonrun#trustthetraining#trusttheplan#runnersofinstagram#roadrunner#chasingtheunicorn@hylandspowered
The #woswrestling training continues. Love my weekend work outs with motor mouth. I'm knackered and heavy breathing he just chats whole way around. The difference of him being skinny and me having a gut I guess ha ha #fatherandsonrun
3 miler this morning, 30mins... The inclined run was accompanied by our feet as we briskly trotted across the payment. As the terrain wouldn't back down from it's inclines we pressed onward our journey. Seth an I Slade what the the Bradley Central High School Wrestling team calls "The Graveyard Run"
