Great fuckin’ session this evening. Did a fair amount of squat volume and then went onto PR my getup with a 40kg/88 # bell, then did 8 rounds of 12 swings at 100 # and 1/1 getups at 80 #. Feeling stronger.. after being fasted for 20 hours I didn’t think this would go very well, but damn it was fun.

Inferior capsule! When the muscles and connective tissue underneath the arm (inferior capsule) become tight it will severely restrict the ability to elevate and externally rotate the arms. Having healthy mobility and range of motion in this region of the body is absolutely critical when doing overhead movements 🙌🏽 (mace swings, pull-ups, KB snatching, OLY lifts, etc.) When the inferior capsule of the shoulders becomes tight it will causes over-recruitment of the upper traps and levitator muscle of the neck. Long term this compensation pattern puts undue stress on the top/front (AC joint) of the shoulder causing wearing and impingement. To gain more active mobility in the inferior capsule, it helps to perform a myofascial tissue release of this area. Notice that the Mace 10-2 swing forces me to open up the inferior capsule in a smooth rhythmic fashion. If l had a lot of restrictions here it would severely inhibit my ability to perform this movement healthfully. “Healthfully” being the key focus, the @acumobility eclipse roller allows me to consistently manage and release built up tension in my inferior capsule from all the recreational activities l am involved in (🚵🏾♂️🧗🏽♂️🚣🏾♀️🏋🏽♂️🥍🏔🥊). This is truly a next generation roller that gets deeper into muscle attachment points and amazingly provides posture queuing. If you are experiencing a lot of discomfort in the front of the shoulders and neck with overhead movements, work on releasing the restricted muscles underneath the arm to correct this issue. Following my impact injury on my chest from 5 days ago, I am now resigned to the spin bike to get my cardio fix. There is always a workaround. I haven’t been on this beast for a long while. Intervals of 90 seconds at a moderate intensity and then 60 at high intensity before blasting the quads on 30 second out of the saddle hill climbs. Leg circuit followed. Hoping that I’ll be back on the bells within a few weeks. And what does this have to do with the Open? Bio-centric breathing is matching the mechanics of normal inhalation/exhalation cycles with the mechanics of your physical activity in order to maximize efficiency. When the body is absorbing force (i.e. re-racking a barbell) or otherwise in thoracic flexion (i.e. the bottom of a kettlebell swing), air is easily expelled from the lungs based almost solely on decreased area within the chest cavity. With quick, purposeful exhalation at these timepoints in the movement, the pressure gradient in the lungs makes for effortless passive inhalation. This can be applied to any cyclic movement. . Today's breathing tips focus on applying our breathing cycles to the wallballs in 19.1 While cycling wallballs, we can do a two breath cycle, breathing out on the way down and breathing out on the way up. Or you can use three breaths, one on the way down, one coming out of the hole in the squat and one when the ball is released. Do whichever one helps you relax the most. "Focus on exhalation only. Short puffs of air out the mouth. Keep your facial muscles relaxed. Allow the negative pressure created during the exhale to automatically refill your lungs air. Mixed Method Leg Complex Blast the quads with this 2 exercise combo set. Movements: Double kettlebell rack squats - 10 reps Single leg jumps - 10 reps (5 per leg) How to: Complete 1 set of squats with a relatively heavy set of weights(I used one 25lb and one 35 lb kettlebell in each hand). Once complete, lower weights to the floor then immediately complete 5 single leg jumps per leg onto a plyometric step or box as fast as you can. I used a tire. Give this one a try for 3 - 5 sets and tag me.

“It all goes down hill after 40.” said the person who gave up. Don’t tell me it all goes down hill. Every day I train men and women well over 40, who are in better shape now than they were in their youth. Getting older doesn’t mean you have to break down and give up. . This year I’ll be blessed enough to join the 40 club. I’ve gone though 2 C-sections and have never had any plastic surgery. I have zero pain, don’t take any pills and consider myself relatively strong. I eat Girl Scout cookies moderately when the season comes and enjoy real ice cream. I also enjoy pizza on cauliflower crust once a week. Lately I’ll drink a glass of some special low sulfate and low sugar wine once a week. (I sneeze if I don’t do this kind) I don’t count calories ever. I walk my dogs daily and lift Kettlebells consistently. I don’t sit much and stand while I’m at the computer. I do make sure I can always pull and push my own body weight. . If I want to lean out more I’ll just eat less and choose not to have indulgences temporarily. Other than that this is me on any given day. . Helping my students become stronger and sexier in their 40’s, 50’s, 60’s and 70’s is truly a gift. I’m inspired daily to see it with my own eyes how they improve as they age! . Don’t let anyone tell you that it goes down hill after a certain age. It’s negative and it’s only true if you stop taking care of yourself. Surround yourself with people who inspire you! .
