Since the Oscars are next week I guess I should finally post my top ten favorite movies from 2018.
Wasn't the perfect year in film but it was still pretty great. A large variety of films fell into my top ten. Action, Sci-Fi, Comic Book, Animated, Foreign Language, Horror, and even Documentary/Crime were all apart of what I loved to watch.
My 5 honorable mention were Apostle, Tully, A Quiet Place, First Reformed, and Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse.
I wish I would have had more time to rewatch a lot of these because maybe they could have been even higher.
Let me know what you think of my list and even what your favorite movies were. I look forward to doing this again for 2019 and I've already started watching quite a few from this year.
2. Avengers: Infinity War
3. Eighth Grade
4. If Beale Street Could Talk
5. Mission: Impossible - Fallout
7. American Animals
9. Incredibles 2
[Movie Review] Take Me Somewhere Nice (2019) #KataKinema#KatKinRottedam (swipe the pic for a brief review in Bahasa)
Who wouldn’t bother having to wear the same clothes three consecutive days for not being able to open the lock on one’s suitcase, going out with a man one barely knows who pays for a night at a small hostel, and getting tanned with a prostitute? Introducing Alma (Sara Luna Zorić), living on the edge of adulthood, who has lived in the Netherlands all her life with her divorced mother (Sanja Burić), demandingly feels the urge to come to see her ill father (who apparently is just another stranger to her) in Bosnia.
To be or not to be an adult, that is the question we often implied when dealing with a bat-shit crazy complicated life issue. Regularly having her phone conversation with her mother talking about her day-to-day condition, Alma is being portrayed as a coming of age individual, as she typically relies on her current state on someone else. Her cousin Emir (Ernad Prnjavorac), who initially is expected by her mother to accompany her through the journeys of Bosnia, turns out ruthlessly unwilling to welcome her arrival and stay in his home country. Although establishing the main goal to visit her father, Alma, with all her limitations and disorganized plans (which also are not feasible), accepts her inability to pursue her goal and explores her powerlessness through the virtues of people surrounding her.
In a similar manner wearing her one light-blue tennis dress, she discovers romance with Emir’s friend Denis (Lazar Dragojević), whom she promptly asks to come to the Netherlands. The question is once more restated in the second half of the film to Emir, in which he declines and replies how much he loves being in his country, as well prefers being called as a 'patriot' rather than a 'nationalist' (to avoid further misusing the word which differentiate on 'based on love' and 'based on hate' subsequently).

The Red Wagon Inn was the precursor to the Plaza Inn. This watercolor 🎨 drawing by Sam McKim gave sponsors Swift Meat Company and it’s subsidiary, Derby foods, a good idea of what the space would look like. What’s your fav restaurant in the parks Also did everyone go to Disneyland in suits like this drawing depicts??

For me, this is showing love and compassion for others. To be empathetic and understanding. I believe that if we heal others, we can also heal ourselves. What does a meaningful / memorable life mean to you?

“Visions of Light: The Art of Cinematography” Dir. Todd McCarthy, Stuart Samuels & Arnold Glassman (1994) CBS Fox Video. Glad to hear the Academy has finally come to their senses & will continue to air all 24 categories at the Oscars. Maybe they should watch this documentary to remind themselves that cinematography - along with editing, makeup & short films - are fundamental parts of filmmaking that can’t but shuttered away during commercial breaks.
“If there is pain, nurse it, and if there is a flame, don't snuff it out, don't be brutal with it. Withdrawal can be a terrible thing when it keeps us awake at night, and watching others forget us sooner than we'd want to be forgotten is no better. We rip out so much of ourselves to be cured of things faster than we should that we go bankrupt by the age of thirty and have less to offer each time we start with someone new. But to feel nothing so as not to feel anything—what a waste!” #callmebyyourname#andreaciman#lucaguadagnino#firstlove#fallinginlove#masterpiece#cinemania#cinematography#movies
"Dude, I have to. I can’t get through it... I’m a chain-smoker. If people come and see you at a show for 80 minutes they literally know everything about you. With 5,000 people coming, they film you so the people in the back can see you on the screens. There isn’t a moment when you can turn around and gather yourself. Everything you feel, everything you’re emoting, is just there. I have toured so much more than I thought I would; I thought I would be more of a studio singer. But I toured Europe for two years."
