Run Club+ kicks off March 10th! Meet your mom crew, meet your running goals, meet the YOU you’ve been missing!
FIT4MOM is so much more than a gym or a workout. We are a community of strong mamas supporting one another, it fitness, but more importantly, in motherhood, relationships, and life.
It’s not at all about where you start. It’s completely about which direction you’re headed, mama.
Run Club+ isn’t about being the runners world runner. It’s not about splits or pr’s. It’s about endorphins, and time for you, and the option to bring the kids without guilt or childcare logistics. It’s about making friends who will meet you for a workout or run, and who understand this wild motherhood ride. It’s not about vanity, it’s about self care.
Today’s the last day to enter the Run Club+ raffle! Enroll before midnight and you might be the lucky one who wins $50 back! That makes RC+ Live only $99! 😱😳🤯
Plazas Bilingual Community Education has been a labor of love for its founding board members, all of whom are working parents here in Oakland. They all have little ones at home who remind them daily of the importance of access to early childhood education. That’s why they are working to make high-quality preschool education accessible to more of Oakland’s youth. Give some love this Valentine’s day and support Oakland families by making a donation to the Plazas scholarship fund on our webpage. #oaklandrunningfestival#oakland#runforacause#runoakland#oakrunfest#oaklandmarathon#5k#relay#halfmarathon#community#10years

Overnight oats and a cup of Joe. I’ve been eating breakfast at 5am for the last couple of weeks while training for the #oaklandmarathon2019. The oats are soaked in almond milk and are mixed with grated apple, chia seeds, hemp hearts, peanut butter, raisins, and pepitas. Delicious and packed with energy for the runs! 🏃 #juststrollingaround
It’s day four of our Galentines Day Week giveaway! And today we’ve decided to extend the $50 back raffle until Friday!
Reasons you might like RC+:
1. Running ≠ Punishment. It actually equals quick access to endorphins! That’s basically the opposite.
2. It’s personal. The training plan our FIT4MOM Certified Coach, @aka.brooklyns.mom, builds for you is, wait for it... for YOU! We’re not sending anyone out on a 10 miler alone in the woods. Unless you want to! 😝
3. Accountability. Meeting goals, or just getting out of the house, is 178% easier when you know someone is meeting you! Run Club+ Live group runs are every Sunday. These are the week’s planned long run, so you’ll have friends holding you to that distance, and the week to week check in with our coach.
Our charity partner Plazas
is making early childhood education more affordable for local families. With the cost of high-quality preschool costing more than a year’s college tuition, and over 3,000 Oakland families currently waitlisted for state subsidies, Plazas believes the time is now to tackle educational inequity. With your support, Plazas goal is to provide scholarships to more than 30 preschool aged students in the coming years. Support low-income families in need by donating here
and help a young child receive a high-quality, bilingual education! #runforacause#oakland#oaklandrunningfestival#oaklandmarathon#oakrunfest#oakland#10years#run#support#community
Our friends at @theselc are running for dignified jobs! They've chosen us to be their solidarity partner this year, which means they'll give a portion of what they raise to the Bay Area Black Worker Center!Join their #WorkersRunOakland campaign at the #OaklandRunningFestival by signing up with the LINK IN OUR BIO! ✊🏾
charity partner of the week, Plazas,
is an all-volunteer organization working to increase access to high-quality, bilingual preschool in Oakland. Because they are volunteer run, every dollar you contribute will go straight to a child who would otherwise not be able to afford preschool. Your contribution
can help create a brighter future for Oakland’s youth. Help Plazas fund preschool scholarships by running
for Team Plazas and donating to their scholarship
Can’t get through practice without a little teamwork 🖐🏼. Our K-5s brought their energy and excitement to their first Spring practice Saturday, which wouldn’t be complete without lots of high fives and smiles. Just 40 DAYS left until the @oaklandmarathon—we can’t wait to cross that finish line! 🏁
Plazas Community Bilingual Education believes access to preschool is crucial. It nurtures the social, emotional and cognitive development of children. Bilingual
preschool does even more. When children learn in two languages, they show greater empathy, demonstrate longer attention spans, and are better prepared to engage with the whole of Oakland, CA.
I’m calling this my ‘“Run for Longanisa” 20-miler. I like to indulge in something good after a good long run and I decided it was going to be longanisa this weekend. Typically, longanisa has a lot of fat in them so they’re not really healthy to eat, unless you’re on a keto diet. In Downtown LA, there’s a hole in wall Filipino restaurant on 7th St called @ricebarla that serves the best longanisa I’ve ever had.
As for the run, I felt pretty good through the first 14 miles but run-walked the last 6. It was a typical long run for me.

Check out our running form before (1) and after (2) a running form clinic with YMCA trainer Kym Sterner today. At our first official 5k practice, @kymsterner came to teach our 6th-12th grade 5k students about running form, guiding us through drills and running with us during practice to give us reminders. Video 1 is our form before Kym’s tips, video 2 shows our improvements, and videos 3-5 show some of Kym’s talk. We’re off to a strong start this season focusing on form and speed. Thank you, Kym!
One of our donors and volunteers recently said: "RBO is one of the few meaningful ways I feel I can 'give back' and so I am happy to support in my own small way." Donating to RBO or becoming a volunteer is a meaningful opportunity to give back to our community, mentor and support our youth, and make friends. We anticipate a BIG practice tomorrow (first Spring practice for our K-5 students)—it's never too late to join us as a volunteer! Donate here: www.rboakland.org/donate/ and sign up to volunteer here: www.rboakland.org/volunteer/.
The Beads of Courage program is a resilience-based intervention designed to facilitate storytelling in a non-verbal way. Patients receive a set of beads and a string. Each bead on the strings represents a part of the medical journey. For example, a "bumpy" bead is for a difficult time with medication, a glow in the dark bead for a session of radiation, a star bead for surgery, etc. The beads help the child tell his or her own story in visual and tactile ways. Here is Alayne, UCSF Mission Bay’s first Beads of Courage recipient. #charitypartner#runforacause#oakland#oaklandrunningfestival#pierresbirthdayfund

Practice is Saturday— rain or shine 😄
We’ll split into three groups: K-5 (5k runners), 6-12 grades (5k runners), and 6-12 grades (half marathon runners). We'll warm up together with dynamic stretches and drills, run 1-5 miles with our groups (with added games, hills, or stairs), and finish with static stretches, water, and snacks.
Bonus: YMCA trainer Kym Sterner will be back to talk with our 6-12 students about running form and other tips!
Come out today and cheer me on in my first official race ever! I’m doing a half-marathon today in Oakland Running Festival. The race starts at the lake at 9:30 and goes through downtown, West Oakland, and back around the Lake. This was a goal I set a couple months back, do the symphony, then the half-marathon. It’s another part of the the Soul Restoration Suite. Mind, body, and soul restoration! Wish me luck! #running#halfmarathon#oaklandrunningfestival#soulrestoration#oakland#marathon#marathonchoice#oakrunfest
