🚨 💪🏻 Arm training tip 💪🏻 🚨
One of the things I personally like to focus on in all of my lifts is control, and thus removing the stretch reflex. With that being said the stretch portion of a movement is important and can actually contribute to an increase in hypertrophy. The greater the stretch on a muscle the greater the ROM and force said muscle will incur during contraction.
With the above being said and taking into account the excercise shown , a great way to increase the stretch portion of the movement thus increase ROM and growth potential , is to flex the bicep when the tricep is in the lengthened position. We all know that bicep and tricep are antagonist muscles in that one is an elbow extensor with the other being responsible for elbow flexion. This means that when the tricep is fully lengthened (stretched) the bicep is fully shortened (flexed) and vice versa.
The takeaway? Next time your training your guns, try to fully shorten the opposing muscle which will fully lengthen the target muscle before each contraction.

How great is walking??? Just being able to use my legs - albeit slowly and heel-to-toe deliberately - feels decadent. Also decadent was the massage I had tonight; decadent and necessary. 10 weeks on #crutches paired with my new hip-rockin limp has my back on the verge of revolt. The massage studio I go to is a 15 minute ~3/4 mile stroll from my house, which is farther than I can hoof right now-especially after overdoing it a bit in #bootcamp this morning. But I desperately wanted to do a little walking as it’s my greatest joy right now, so I drove halfway there and then stretched my legs the last three blocks. Still getting used to my new normal - to my new limitations as well as my new gratitude for every little thing. .
And I’m hoping these bootcamp-wrought aches will be gone in the morning because I can’t spend another night crying on the kitchen floor. (Literally my #PT just texted me, ‘please don’t spend another night crying on the kitchen floor.’)

Another dirty mirror selfie, another day working through my Anxiety. Although my anxiety is slowly reducing, it varies on a daily basis. Anyone who has experienced it would know it can be debilitating and unpredictable. Advice I received from a friend (@bodybyleon)was to ‘embrace it and except it, don’t fight it, in hope it will just settle’. Each day is a new day, some days are more challenging than others. Everyday I’ve been focusing on just accepting it or ‘going with the flow’ so to speak. 🙏🏼
I’m not perfect, I’m far from perfect, I make mistakes, I have my struggles and challenges like everyone else, I AM HUMAN, with a heart full of good intentions. Sometimes I feel weak but weakness would be giving up. Strength comes from within and overcoming challenges you are faced with. 🙌🏼
Since opening up I’ve had a lot of people reach out to me and share their own experiences. It’s comforting to know you aren’t alone, yet sad to know so many do suffer in silence. 😪 Probably because anxiety and mental illness are not spoken about enough. You honestly never know what someone maybe going through behind closed doors, behind a bubbly attitude and beautiful smile. Kindness and support can go along way. 💙

Although my deadlift from Tuesday was a lifetime volume PR..SO WAS TODAY! Hit a volume PR of 395x8 beltless! I'm super excited to be able to hit this. Backoffs 3x8 @ 365. WE BURIED IT.
