At each of our monthly Success Assemblies we define and recognize one of the values listed around the border of our mission statement. This month we recognize Resilience. Each grade level team decides their own ways to engage their students around what that month’s value means, looks and sounds like, and why it is important to demonstrate. They work with their classes to highlight students who have stood out demonstrating the value and to appreciate the various individual ways that has happened. You are welcome to join us for any and all assemblies, held the 4th Friday of each month! Your teacher will tell you if your child is getting an award.
Please note the following assembly start times:
2nd Grade 9:30-10
1st Grade 10:45-11:15
3rd Grade 12-12:40
4th Grade 1:30-2
5th Grade 2:10-2:40 #Resilience#BeachSuccessAssembly#BeachSchoolPTA#BeachElementarySchool#ElementarySchool#PPS#PortlandPublicSchool#PTAlife#PortlandOR#PublicSchoolProud#PublicSchoolsMatter
The best way to muster strength is to lift someone up.

Stayed up and finished watching this game, and it was a good one. Held one of highest scoring teams to 16 points in the 4th, unheard of these days. Great resilience by the Lakers who were down by 19 points at one point🏀 #lakers#resilience#lebronjames

It’s time for ATIC’s #bookfeaturefriday 🤓📚
What makes some of us more resilient than others, and how can we grow our resilience? Sharing from the works of Daniel Goleman, Jeffrey A. Sonnenfeld, Shawn Achor, this HBR book explores the key characteristics of resilient people; those who re-emerge stronger after experiencing challenges, setbacks or traumatic events ✨

DON'T TALK ABOUT THE FALL; TALK ABOUT THE GETTING UP!
This is me at 15 walking on the beach of Cape Cod way back in late '80's. (Talk about TBT!) This is when life was all in front of me.
When I had mostly ideals and dreams to achieve.
One thing I am so glad I have done well in life is that when life threw me curve balls, I never was very slow to get up for the most part.
See, I never liked pain, yet have lived very painful moments in my life.
Have I stayed down too long at times, rolling in the crap I was going through, feeling sorry for myself? Of course. We all have.
But then you realize that TALKING ABOUT THE FALL TOO LONG CAUSES YOU TO STAY DOWN.
It is a process. Losing a loved one is a process. Going through a divorce is a process. Starting from under the barrel financially is a process.
Fitness is measured by the time it takes you to recover after breaking down muscle fibers in your body (workout). Sometimes we need things to break down in order to build again better.
Working on recovering faster and better is a process but one day, you will master that process.
What matters is understanding that when things break down, when you fall, this is not the end. It is simply an opportunity to build back better.
So next time you fall down, bounce back up as soon as possible. If someone or your own self mentions the fall, say:"Ya but, did you see that getting back up though!!?" .
We carry generational trauma and violent pasts in our blood; it’s hard to exists sometimes in this colonized world without letting it become toxic to every aspect of our being. I had to remind myself today that ancestral healing is essential to my growth, existence, and survival. #ancestralhealing
😻We love this by @scottmetzgercartoons . For all the cat lovers and mindfulness practitioners out there. 🔎We can choose which thoughts to pay attention to. Happy Friday. 😻

Being kind to ourselves is always an option. If we wait until we have reached our goals, got the perfect job, the perfect life, or finished our to do list, it may never happen. Research demonstrates that self-compassion helps us to achieve our goals, motivates us to learn and grow, and fosters sustainable wellbeing. You are worth it. Happy Friday 🤗💛
This is so so good!
Being vulnerable CAN be SCARY.
But really, it doesn’t need to be.
Way back in the day, people thought you needed to be rough and tough (afropuff, remember that? hah!)
As if being stoic meant strength and vulnerability meant weakness.
It builds trust. And in today’s time, if you are sharing who you REALLY are, what you stand for, what lights YOU up, what makes YOU come alive...people can see that! The REAL you!
Vulnerability builds credibility.
What does vulnerability mean to you? How are you being vulnerable in showing up everyday?
Eric is my #garbageman | He’s also an #artist in my opinion, because he knows as much about the art of sanitation as I know about #resilience | BIG difference, though: humble Eric doesn’t think of himself as an artist though a ton of people need him more than they need me | >If you are virtuous and do not think so, where would you go without being loved?< #zhuangzi
I mean, I could tell you how I like Micron pens as much as the next person but there’s more to it than that, aye? P.S. this is my first time drawing on an iPad 😂😭✨🖊 ✨👁 ✨ 🧬 ✨

W O R D S M A T T E R !
Especially the ones you tell yourself. 🗣🧠👂
Your mind will always believe everything you tell it.
Feed it faith.
Feed it truth.
Feed it with love.
Be careful how you talk to yourself.
When everyone else fails to believe in me, I believe in myself.

‘An Open Letter To Any Woman Brave Enough to Call An End to A Loveless Marriage' - link to my full piece written for @whimn in bio.
What’s harder then realising you’ve lost your marriage, is the bigger realisation that you’ve lost YOURSELF. The shame and stigma is real.
I can see clearly now just how much my light had been dimmed, trapped in my unhappy relationship.
I never thought I would be 'that woman' who I allowed myself to become. But I've realised, there is no 'kind of woman' - it can happen to all women; any of us.
Our personal power allows us to realise our worth and our voice is deserving to be heard.
From the most challenging time of my life, emerged the happiest relationship I’ve ever had... the one with myself.
But at a time when I lost my voice, I was that woman, secretly scrolling endlessly through the internet searching for answers to give me hope.
So this article is to that woman (or man for that matter). xx
Sometimes our social life gets put on the backburner, and it's hard to find time to call or hang out with #friends. However, there are so many benefits to socializing, like feeling mentally and emotionally stimulated, having a support system, and experiencing a sense of #happiness and belonging. Make time for friends! #worklifebalance#friendship#selfcare
😒 Judgement 😱
Does judgment impact our success? What does it cost to hold on to your own beliefs? There are four ways that holding on to judgment may be holding you back from achieving radical success and the methods for you to hold yourself accountable.
What are your thoughts on the above⁉️
Clients often tell me they struggle with motivation to eat right and exercise. What is often overlooked is the power of habit. I believe that while motivation can be useful, it is often fleeting. Habits however, show up consistently. Need help building the right habits? Let’s talk!
