I woke up this morning and saw it was about 8 degrees F with a negative windchill. At that point I said “no” 😆 I went through my normal workday which was actually a bit stressful. I guess it was a good thing I got the run in this afternoon as it was good stress-relief. That’s one of my favorite things about running in how therapeutic it can be. It won’t make my stress go away completely but it at least helps me get in some kind of new perspective on things, a change of scenery for a bit. I’ll take these 3 miles and enjoy the rest of this evening with my significant other 😉 ........
My brother is an addict...This has turned him into one of the most self destructive, hateful, vindictive and lonely people i know. He's an alcoholic and a junkie. It started with depression then booze now and then. Then booze every night then weed then fuck knows what!...It just spiralled out of control...Every now and then he skypes to abuse me.Every time he does I think it's possibly the last time I will see him so I let him say the vile things he needs to say.Secretly I hope it is the last time I will hear from him and I feel awful for saying that but I can't help it.I think maybe it would be for the best. He's so lost,so broken,so bitter and twisted so hateful...Maybe it would give him peace.I don't speak to my family.I don't share there hate and bitterness, there greed and spite. My brother is a product of this,as am I...I choose to not be like them,I choose the opposite and they hate me for it.I run away from them...I chose to run!!!...As long as I run I'm fit healthy happy and focused. All the bullshit is crushed into the muddy trails!...It has been the best thing I have ever done for myself. It has made me more positive and confident and been wonderful for my mental health.I've become my own project.I try to get better, stronger, enjoy myself more.I look for new and exciting adventures! New trails, new challenges but always keeping it light hearted and fun...Every now and then I slip and let things get to me but only a tiny bit and it's instantly sorted with a run or a chat with friends! I have great friends and family of my own and I have #running ...People think I'm nuts running about like I do.What they don't realise is how nuts I would be without it! #runhappy#runformentalhealth#runforlove#runforlife#runhappy#runnersofinstagram#trailrunner#runningbuddiesforlife#runwithfriends

"I'm 42 today, Little Metal Child. Wow. That feels weird to say. 42."
"It's no big deal...age is just a number. What did you do to celebrate?"
"I ran 14 miles."
"Wait now what with the where?'
"14 miles. 5 to warm up, then 7 miles at 6:20 pace, broken up with 2 minutes of rest every two miles. Then 2 cooldown."
"That's insane. You know you're insane, right?"
"Well I look at it as a metaphor for life, like how you work really hard at something, then you've got to recover. Then you hit it hard again, then you recover for a bit. Before you know it, the hard work is done and you've adapted to a new level."
"Whatever dude, it was like 7 out today."
"Well I guess that's part of the metaphor too--the cold reality of life or something. Dunno--hadn't thought that one through."
"Listen to yourself...how do you come up with this crap?"
"14 miles makes for a lot of thinking time, Little Metal Child."
"Well nobody can ever make me run. Ever."
"You're gonna hate me for saying this, but that is soooo metal!"

Have you ever said Amen in the middle or end of a run?
I didn't necessarily want to run today. It got chilly, windy (thus the backwards cap!) and cloudy when I got to my running site. But I knew I needed it. And I'm so glad I did. It ended up being a great run, a beautiful day, and a meeting with a holy God.
While running, I listened to my new audiobook, "In His Image" by @jenwilkin ...
When I got this book, I just knew I liked the author. She is very theologically sound and biblically based...everything I aspire to be. Needless to say, this book is rocking my socks off. It is addressing what I have been wrestling with lately...Who does God want me to be? He wants me to be a reflection of Himself. Holy. Perfect. Righteous. Loving.
This book has me saying Amen all throughout...I'm going to have to buy a paperback to mark in and take notes.
Would anyone want to go through it with me? One chapter a week...either on Instagram live or in a Facebook group??? We will go over the questions and verses at the end of each chapter. ❤️ Comment below if you'd be interested in it.
And don't forget to enter the Bible giveaway a few posts back. 😊

|🏃🏼♀️3.50 mile run| Solid run this afternoon with my mini sled dog 🐾 training team 😜 — this was my first run in a LONG while & it took me a little time to get in the groove but overall I felt better than I expected this run. I’m also grateful I found a pocket in the day without rain! 💕 #RunningWithDogs .
🐾SIDE NOTE - this leash is absolutely in amazing! It really helps Mishka not pull as hard 🙌🏻 #NoPulling
#FBF@run_mercedes 2019 Half Marathon Pics Thanks to the photographers that worked in the cold and rain on Sunday. I had to search a while for these because my bib was covered for the entire race. Fact: I get slower with an open jacket. #runnerproblems 😁 Glad to have pics of a good day😊. #FlashbackFriday
On my run today I spotted a Cooper's Hawk who displayed such vibrant coloration that I paused to appreciate the bright display. Wakefield Valley Golf trail may be a mud pit to run through right now, but I love to see nature's reclaiming of the elements. I don't run to stay neat and clean, anyway! #runnersofinstagram#marathontraining
Full body Kettlebell workout.
3 sets of 12 of each exercise (12 on each arm for the single arm exercises) - let me know how you get on! I’m using a 10kg kettlebell (the red one) and a 6kg yellow one.
1. Goblet Squat. - Feet slightly wider than shoulder width apart.
- Hold the kettlebell by the horns (ball up!) at your chest, elbows tucked in.
- Squat down, keep your heels pressed down, chest proud.
- Go as low as you can, keep your abs tensed and drive back up from your heels.
2. Kettlebell Swings.
- Feet slightly wider than shoulder width apart, toes turned very slightly outwards.
- Kettlebell held in two hands by the handle between your thighs.
- Your hips are the engine or powerhouse for the movement. You should crease at the hips with a flat back. Think about pushing your hips backwards and then driving them forwards.
- As you push your hips forwards clench your bum hard. The harder you clench the more power you will generate. Think about standing tall and stop at the vertical position, you don’t want to learn backwards past vertical.
3. Kettlebell Upright Row.
- Feet hip width apart, hold kettlebell at the handle with both hands.
- Leading with your elbows, raise the kettlebell along the line of your body until your hands are just under the chin.
- Lower in a controlled manner to starting position.
4. Squat to Overhead Press.
- Feet slightly wider than shoulder width apart.
- Rack the kettlebell against your wrist and extend your their arm for balance.
- Squat down, keep your heels pressed down, chest proud.
- Go as low as you can, keep your abs tensed and as you drive back up from your heels straighten your arm and press the kettlebell above your head.
- Lower the kettlebell under control to the start position. Do 12 reps then change arms.
5. Bent Over Row.
- Hinge forward from the hips approx. 45 degrees, weight in your heels and flat back.
- Row the kettlebell up toward your rib cage, keeping your elbow close to your body.
- Return to the start position, do 12 reps then change sides.

Half days and 58 degrees means one thing...
Some days are going to be easier running days then others. I didn’t have it in me today and after 2km I decided that instead of forcing a run, I could use an extra long stretch sesh. Feeling’ refreshed and ready for Sunday’s last long run before I start my taper. Rock n Roll DC ... here I come!👊 @a_a_rodz See you at the finish line 🤙

Happy Friday!! 🎉 I’m soooo excited because I’m officially 1 week out from my 50k🏃🏼♀️, and 8 days out from our Bahamas trip! 👙☀️This girl needs some sand and sunshine...and a shiny new race medal. ✨With that being said, I’ve also been very lucky this week getting my runs in during breaks in our crazy rainstorms. I only have had to get wet once this week, and it’s basically rained non-stop all week. I’m going to the women’s conference at church tonight and tomorrow- I look forward to it every year! I usually show up Friday night feeling blah and always leave Saturday afternoon feeling 🎉🙌🏼🙏🏼. Who else has fun long weekend plans?! 🙋🏼♀️ #50ktraining#ultratraining
Fanta is my fuel of choice. For anyone who used to watch Kenan and Kel, “Who loves orange soda? K̶e̶l̶ KATIE loves orange soda!” 🙋🏻♀️🍊
