Everyone wants to learn to swim. However, many beginners have fear of being in the water. I want you to remember one important rule - when you have air in your lungs, water will push you up to the surface.✅
However, when you breathe your air out, water will not support the body. The human body does not naturally float on top of the water if the body doesn’t have air in the lungs. There is no difference between a body with no air and a stone.❌
So while being in the water and keeping air in the lungs, you will not be able to dive.🏊♂️
Do you have this fear and how have you overcome it?🤔

So this was yesterday’s session with @schwimm_guru 🏊♂
I realised that rotation is key if you want to float longer but with less effort. Changing your individual way of swimming can be quite challenging 🤯 once you start focusing on one thing something else falls apart. It is crucial to have someone by your side telling you what to improve from time to time.
Thanks a lot for supporting me, Vito! 💪🏼
How well do you breath?
Did you know that most people only use 60% of their lung capacity? 🤭
Whether you like it or not, as you get older it gets tougher to get full breaths and your breathing starts to get shallow.
Watch an old person breath and a baby breath. The baby's belly goes up and down with each breath because the diaphragm is working as it should. An older person usually breaths through the chest, which is using a lot of secondary respiratory muscles.
So what are you gonna do about it?
Well, you can start by giving your lungs a stretch with some breathing drills.
One drill we like is the 4-7-8 method.
It involves a 4s inhale, 7s hold, 8s exhale.
This cycle will expand the lungs and help you get into more of a para-sympathetic state.
Both of which are great!
You have a choice to live with vitality till the day you die. It just depends on the choices you make early on!
So just try our breathing drills for 3 minutes today! When you get done I can bet you're going to feel better and be taking deeper breaths.
P.S. - Try to do more of a belly breathing when doing the drills, not in your shoulders and chest! We like to use our hand for active feedback to our brain, so if you are having trouble feeling your breath, put your palm on your belly to feel the rise and fall.
I was all set for a lower body session this morning and really looking forward to it but my wrists were feeling quite fragile and achy so it just wasnt going to happen.☹ Simply couldn't even think about working with weights (free weights or my bodyweight) with them today.
The alternative plan involved me, a pool and some pretty hardcore swimming drills followed by a much gentler, more relaxed cool down. I think perhaps I should swim more often as I always find that it helps me to feel looser and more mobile afterwards even though I will undoubtedly feel the effort in a few places that I never ever seem to with other exercises but that's a good thing right!? As it turned out raising my heartbeat and clearing my head was exactly what I needed ahead of a day that has just moved the goalposts on me again. I'm now facing a mountain that keeps growing with terrain that is just getting rockier. There has got to be a way up though right.

Today I had the chance to get visual feedback using a swim mirror on the floor. It is a great way to reflect on your own technique and find details to improve.
Although I'd prefer the reflection to be less honest, I now know better than before what I have to focus on and was able to change my arm posture and increase rotation💪🏼

#swimming with fins! #swim#fins improve leg 🦵 strength and #swimmers 🏊🏻♀️ 🏊🏽♂️ have to put more effort when swimming by kicking harder and faster in #water. Stronger legs will make the leg 🦵 action in the water 💦 more efficient. #swimmingdrills
Since I started to train in a dedicated group, swim speed and endurance have increased a lot 🥳
Its much easier to motivate yourself when there are other people pushing you to your very limits, wouldn’t you agree? 😬
Single arm scoop - One of the best uses of drills is to break down a complex action into a smaller actions, get each smaller action correct and then put it together. Single arm scoop drill can help improve your catch. Remember the catch is the setup phase. Don’t go for power here, use it to set up the arm in a good position to then apply power during the pull phase.
This is one of the drills we taught at our Hell Week camp in Thailand this week. Dates for 2019 are October 12-19 and 20-27. Bookings open late next week ✌️ #hellweek#effortlessswimming#swimmer#triathlon#swimmingdrills

An easy (but really hard!) way to check if you’re keeping your head centred when you breathe is Paddle Head still. Place a flat paddle on top of your head when you swim and it will stay there if you don’t lift your head or move it to the side to breathe. Wear a cap so the paddle doesn’t slip off. We’ve got a clinics coming up on in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Mackay, Rockhampton, Newcastle and Perth.
