I've been struck down with a tummy bug, so I'm consoling myself with wild swimming memories from this Christmas, when my biggest problem was working out how to get in.
This was at Routin Lynn in Northumberland

Just before I stripped my outer clothes off to reveal my bikini on Porty Beach on Saturday, a man walked passed me and said: "I don't fancy what he's doing much; he's going for a swim" and gestured towards a man in a wetsuit on the shore.
My brother-in-law and I exchanged knowing looks as the man walked away. Then, in my bikini, I headed for the sea...
I've seen so many of you posting pictures of sea swims on Portobello Beach, but I've always been too distracted by auntie duties to have a dip.
Today, I rectified that and waved to my niece and nephew on the shore from the sea.
Top tip: You can have a hot shower at the swimming pool facilities directly opposite this spot. It'll cost you just £1.70.
Also, the little green hot drinks van is conveniently positioned. Delicious hot chocolate.
All in all - fab!

Having the whole family together this Christmas meant my swims were well-documented.
Here's a pic my sister took at Routin Lynn just before I got in.
The stunning Ross Sands in Northumberland, where I took a salty dip during the Christmas break.

Was very excited on Christmas Day to be given a camera I can actually take in the water with me.
Need to purchase some accessories and work on my technique, but I think this picture shows the enjoyment I get from swimming in the sea.
This was taken during a swim at Ross Sands and that's Bamburgh Castle behind me.

It's Friday; I'm back at work and have a stinking cold. Wish I was back here having a splash about.
Back in my home pool after two weeks of outdoor swimming.
Question: Why are New Year's resolutioners always so chatty?
Hope they catch the bug and keep coming back. Wednesday evenings are always quiet late on, so there's plenty of pool for everyone.
From the North Sea to Budapest and the world - my year in swimming.

A teeny tiny Barefoot Em coming out of the sea at Ross Sands yesterday.

A sneak peek of today's swimming spot at Ross Sands. It was such a privilege to swim between two castles and with the backdrop of the dunes.
Sad to be leaving Northumberland today, but it's been a very swimmy Christmas.

Ready to rock the Whangamata 2k swim! It’s not cold, just want to be able to keep up with the field in my super fast #xterrawetsuits#swimtheworld
Should probably wait and post this tomorrow, but I'm just too excited.
I've got a fabulous collaborative post up on the blog. In it, some of you lovely lot have shared your favourite swims of 2018.
Warning: One of the stories made me cry.
Link in the bio.
Big thanks to @swimming.women, @swimmingthroughwinter and @rlyonesse for taking part.

It's cold and dark outside. I don't mind the dark, but I would quite like to swap the cold for this thermal pool on our recent swim trip to Hungary.
