The results begin appear when you return to your training!
So who won the Toto draw? 🐖. Have been struggling to adjust back to SG weather but happy to get it right in today’s easy run. Coincidentally took the route to entrance of Coney Island and back, kinda prefer this route now for 9km. Serene and peaceful despite the dirt track being more concrete than dirt. 🙄. Long run tmr, let’s see how I feel as the day goes by. Easy week continues before the training camp in Tokyo next week!
#amocorrer#running#run#nrcmexico#nikeplus#nrc#instagramrunners#thefunrunclub
My #throwbackthursday is to The Snake Lane 10 2017 & probably one of the most character-building races I've ever participated in
This was hands down my worst race. Literally my worst. The previous year, I had begun my running journey with a personal 'grand slam' of a half marathon (Humber), a 10K (Harrogate) & a 10 Mile (Yorkshire). The Yorkshire 10 Mile had been in the October & I had managed to run it non-stop; the feeling of achieving that I can still remember so clearly to this day
I wanted 2017 to be just as successful so I got myself a place in The Snake Lane 10 thinking I could pick up where I left off.
I was wrong 🙈
I naively thought once you started running you maintained the form no matter what - nope!! 😂 I didn't really run for 2 months & did a few training runs in January assuming 'I'll be fine on the day'.
On race day, I just about dragged myself to 3 miles before I had to walk. I know there's no shame in walking but I just couldn't get myself going at all. I managed what can loosely be described as intervals; gentle jog, looong walk. Mid-course, I set myself a target of at least trying to get sub 2 hours (my previous time had been 1hour 40 minutes) - I couldn't even manage that
That race taught me so much. It taught me about the importance of training; the importance of not giving up; the importance of support & encouragement. Despite feeling utterly deflated, I was absolutely determined to 'get back on the horse' as it were & never allow myself to feel as I did that day - I was simply under-prepared & paid the price.
I cannot wait for this years Snake Lane 10 on Sunday. It's a race I hold very dear to my heart as it's thanks to 'The Snake Lane' that I've become the runner I am today. Here's to a good one! 🐍🏃♀️🏃
