Knowing that I’ll be a little more hungry this morning and a bit depleted from yesterday, my pre workout meal is a bowl of oatmeal topped with granola, banana slices and honey. By focusing on foods that offer a lot of energy density (carbs per bite), I can digest this quickly and easily without feeling “too full” in the belly. #sportrd#fuelsmart#carbs#realfood#oatmeal#trimarni#triathlete#yum
Thank you to the 100+ triathletes who attended our event “Triathlon Night” at Carolina Triathlon. It was great to bring together our amazing Greenville community of triathlon experts, athletes and future triathletes!
I’ve called myself a triathlete for the past 13 years and I still love the sport as much as when I started. There can be many barriers to entry when it comes to participating in your first triathlon and staying in the sport. By surrounding yourself with an all-start team of experts to help guide, support, motivate and educate you, you'll get so much more out of your triathlon journey and triathlon will become part of your lifestyle, making you a better human being. 🏊♀️ 🚴🏻♀️ 🏃♀️ #triathlon#trilife#swimbikerun#community#giveback#trimarni@carolinatriathlon

Looking forward to my 2019 #triathlon season. Races are locked in. Check them out on my blog at fionagmartin.com. My goals for this year are to perform my very best at the ITU Worlds for #TeamUSA, improve on my 70.3 times, and continue to grow my strength and resilience in the sport. There are no quick wins so I’m putting the work in now for success later on. How’s your offseason training going?
Are you taking (or thinking of taking) a supplement to achieve optimal health, performance or recovery?
Before you open a supplement bottle, box or container, ask yourself the following questions:
1) Are the ingredients in this product safe?
2) Does the manufacture of the supplement have a good reputation?
3) Are you taking an appropriate dosage to elicit a favorable response?
4) Is there risk of contamination or undeclared ingredients?
5) Are any of the ingredients banned by your sport?
6) Is there good evidence to show that this supplement will work for you?
7) What are the side effects? #sportrd#trimarni#triathlete#supplements#dietitian@wada_ama

I love trying out sport nutrition products....especially when a product can help athletes stay more hydrated when running in the heat. Thanks @btnutrition!
Although it’s only January, in my opinion, it’s never too early to start dialing in your race day fueling strategy.
I have a list of run hydration products that I recommend to my athletes and now I can add NBS to the list. This mild tasting sport nutrition product offers plenty of sodium (along with water) and a bit of sugar/carbohydrates to optimize hydration while maximizing digestion and absorption. #nbs#trimarni#triathlete#sportnutrition#fuelsmart#hydratesmart#hydration#sportrd

This is what a 4D power test + run looks like. It ain’t pretty, it’s certainly sweaty, and I’m happy I made it through! Keeping those 2019 #triathlon goals in mind, and my coaches’ voices in my head. Hopefully I don’t have to do that again for a while! 🥵🤯
Every athlete is prone to niggles but NSAIDs should not be your first resort. Even as an endurance athlete, my intake of ibuprofen is ~5 per year (only for emergency/last resort scenarios and never on race day). Because of the serious risks and side effects of anti-inflammatories such as GI bleeding, damage to the digestive tract, increased muscle damage and kidney issues, consider a topical cream to help with your niggles.
My go-to is @mg12power - The Power of Magnesium. Safe, effective and natural. #natural#healthy#triathlete#athlete#niggles#trainsmart#trimarni#triathlete

Do you struggle with 1) how your body needs to look to perform at your best and 2) how you think your body needs to look to perform at your best?
Sports are about strength, commitment, endurance, speed, confidence, mental toughness and perseverance. So why is it that so many athletes are constantly striving for a "look?" Don't expect a "look" to make you a better athlete. Be proud of the body that you have right now and promise to always respect it, be kind to it and take care of it.
As an athlete, it's your duty to do everything you can during and between training sessions to keep your body in good health. By doing so, your healthy body will reward you with longevity in your sport and incredible sport performances. #bodyimage#loveyourbody#trimarni#triathlete#sportrd#thankyoubody#active#fitness#workout#ironman
No bottle bouncing. No belt movement. It's like you don't know that you are wearing anything around your waist!
Karel and I are proud to sport @nakedrunningband in 2019 as we run free with our hydration/sport nutrition around our waist.
What's your favorite hydration belt/pack to wear when you run? #sportrd#fuelsmart#trimarni#triathlete#hydration
Because goals force results.
But intentions force a process, a focus.
This year, I’m going to be better.
Better at being a business owner.
Better at saying no.
Better at loving my yes.
Better at standing up for me.
Right here, right now, better.
I can’t think of a more appropriate way to tackle 2019.
I struggled with this one.
For the past two years, the word was there, it was easy.
This year it forced me to be quiet.
To sit with everything in my head.
What is it you want this year?
How will you make it happen?
As I dove into the pool today, it hit me. Better.
Better than yesterday.
Better than last year.
And when I’m not?
Accept it, and start again.
That’s what being better is. .

Every time Karel races, he goes by feel. Post race, I am usually the one who tells him his run time/pace per the Ironman tracker. There’s no pre-race weighing or over analyzing. Fitness tracking, calorie counting, body composition measuring and body weighing may not be inherently bad, unless you have an obsession with data.
An obsessive focus on numbers may encourage unhealthy attitudes, behaviors and thoughts related to your self-worth, body image, eating choices, exercise regime, athletic worthiness and self-esteem.
Are your gadgets and tracking devices doing you more harm than good? @kadlo76#gadgets#trustyourintuition#listentoyourbody#trimarni#triathlete

Let’s talk race weight.
We live in a society that focuses on competitive leanness. Most athletes train, eat and live with the mindset that the leaner or more defined you are, the better you’ll perform in sport.
Often this mindset gets messy. Whereas the initial focus for weight loss is to perform better, athletes can easily get obsessed with the idea of achieving the perfect athletic body image and sickness, injury, a performance decline and burnout occurs.
Do you nourish and fuel your body because it’s an incredible vehicle that allows you to do incredible things in your sport or are you chasing a weight/image through rigid eating, calorie restriction and over exercising? 📷 @jay_baker_photo#trimarni#raceweight#fuelsmart#eatwell#loveyourbody#triathlete#imwi#sportrd#dietitian#fuel#athlete#fitness#nutrition

We are a weight obsessed, social-media influenced, quick-fix seeking culture.
While there are many reasons why people diet, those with low self-esteem, poor body image, an addictive personality, anxiety, depression and feel pressure from society to look differently are susceptible to follow a style of eating that includes rules, good vs bad foods, strict eating regimes and social motivation.
Therefore, it’s no surprise why so many people are tempted to follow a trendy diet that claims to improve mental and physical health, boost self-esteem, improve body image, eliminate cravings, boost energy levels, heal your gut, reprogram your body and achieve incredible results.
Don’t be fooled!
There are many physical and mental health dangers of extreme dieting. #dontdiet#loveyourbody#trimarni#sportrd#fitness#newyear#workout#health#nutrition#triathlete#athlete

Campy may be overly protective, a bit too opinionated and not always the most well behaved but he’s been my best friend for over ten years and I couldn’t imagine sharing life without him.
On Monday, during our evening walk in our neighborhood, Campy was charged by three big dogs. One of which got ahold of Campy and left a deep wound in his shoulder.
We are grateful for Pointsett Animal Hospital for taking such good care of our little golden nugget. Extra snuggles for Campy 💗 🐾💗 #trimarni#campyslife#furrybff#campy#dogsofinstagram
There’s no one best diet, “but there are common elements across eating patterns that are proven to be beneficial to health. A diet of minimally processed foods close to nature, predominantly plants, is decisively associated with health promotion and disease prevention." -Dr. David Katz

During my time at Trek, one of my favorite things was meeting all of the people that visited the office. Of course it’s fun to meet pro cyclists that are ten times faster than I’ll ever be, but my favorite was meeting all of the women’s advocates.
These women are some of the most inspiring people I’ve met. Women working full time jobs, doing side hustles, raising families, yet still finding the time to cultivate community, train, and share their love for bikes with others.
@mererigdon79 is one of those fabulous ladies - a badass triathlete, business woman, and overall sunshine in the cycling community, especially with all pink gear! Keep on slaying, friend, you are an inspiration to all us biking ladies out there.

Throwback to that first triathlon ever on the left (East Cooper Coastal Tri) and then Lake Logan Half from August 2017 on the right. This sport has enriched my life in ways I never imagined. I’m stronger, healthier, and have absolutely amazing friends thanks to Triathlon. No matter what happens, I’ll never forget that first race!

Throwback to one of the best high fives of my life at Ironman Chattanooga last September. In just a few days I get to do this again here in Wisconsin!
You wouldn’t know it by the pictures, but that was some rough weather for Ironman Barcelona and the run broke me down at the end. BUT...I got it done.
Thank you to everyone who supported me during this journey. Although the day did not show what I was capable of, the last 6 weeks leading up to the race made me reevaluate my perspective. So I can’t be as competitive as I want to be this time, but I chose to enjoy the day. My body can do this. For now. 😉 I’m heathy. I’m SO lucky to have a passion that keeps me fit. I smiled and thanked every person out there cheering in the cold rain. I thanked the incredible volunteers 100 times. They were the saviors of my day.
I’m incredibly grateful to my @trimarni tribe and so many friends for all of your support and sweet messages before, during and after the race. The ❤️ was felt and appreciated. Many, many thanks to my amazing coaches Marni and @kadlo76 (CRUSH the @ironmantri World Championship this weekend!) .
And especially...all the love and gratitude in the world go to my super-biker, @curtiskloc, who pulls me around on all of our long rides. I’m unbelievably excited for how your Ironman PR went yesterday - 11:13...WOO HOO! Thank you for all that you do through this crazy Ironman training. You are the best partner that a girl could ask for.
2.4 mile swim. 112 mile bike. 26.2 mile run.
A 4 year journey complete. I AM AN IRONMAN!
So overwhelmed with the love and support that made this accomplishment so sweet ! First, my awesome wife Felicia - could not have done it without you. My lovely kids for motivation and laughs, my coach Angie Anderson and my nutritionist Marni Sumbal.
I can't tell you how lucky I feel to finish this bucket list and all the obstacles that I had to overcome to get to this point. I wanted to prove to my tribe that you set your own limits no matter your circumstances.
Get out of your comfort zone, push yourself, set higher standards, make it happen. Live life to your highest potential.
