I had the great pleasure of visiting Brian McNamara (@rarebeasts) in his studio prior to the installation of his exhibition at @ccas_canberra (Manuka), and have written a small review for @visartcbr. The show opens tomorrow, at the same time as the Megalo International Print Prize at @megaloprintstudio. Both shows are not to be missed!
Encouraged by the accessibility of intuitive, well-supported and open-source DIY electronics systems such as Arduino, and the recent (and dramatic) proliferation of affordable digital fabrication tools such as 3D printers and CNC machines, artists over the past decade or so have been increasingly drawn to the exploration of interactive electronics. However, as a wonderful example of the reverse, ‘The Philosophy of Time Travel’ is the result of several years of work and research by Brian McNamara – an avionics engineer turned artist.
The exhibition is, incredibly, McNamara’s first one-man show, and is a must-see. It is highly interactive and a lot of fun – filled to capacity with all manner of quirky objects, which record and translate data into sound, or light, or movement and which beep and ping, clash and clang, and vibrate or light up as the audience moves through the space. Anyone with an interest in electronics or data visualisation will get a particular kick out of it (as will children!), but it will provide an interesting afternoons entertainment for people of all ages and interests [...]
On at CCAS Manuka, 21 Feb to 3 March.

This was a gift from the Cook Islands Parliament. It's a small traditional Chieftan's chair. I keep this on my desk because it reminds me about our friends in the Pacific but also because it represents leadership in their culture. It's a nice reminder each day to try and display a little courage in everything I do 👌 #canberra#wearecbr#canberralife#cookislands

I got the opportunity to take some interior photos for one of my favourite cafes in Canberra, Local Press Cafe + Wholefoods. @localpresscafe@localpress_wholefoods If you haven’t been, you should! Their food and drinks are seriously delicious, the staff are super friendly and the cafe is located right on Kingston Foreshore!
A big part of improving your wellbeing is making sure you’re looking after both your brain and your body. For those of you that need to give the latter a bit more attention, listen up, this one’s for you.
We’ve recently started offering soft tissue therapy at here. Not even sure what this is? Think of it as targeted, evidence-based, therapeutic massage and muscular release education. This is focused massage to release specific tightness in specific areas, with a goal of restoring optimal movement and function in the body.
With this in mind, we’re just a little excited to welcome Tony Bond to our team of awesome staff. He’s a truly world class soft tissue therapist and represents the absolute pinnacle of his profession. Having been based at the Australian Institute of Sport for over twenty years, Tony has a wealth of experience working with professional athletes from almost every major sport in the country. During this time Tony has travelled with countless Australian-level sporting teams, supporting them with soft tissue therapy at six Olympic and five Commonwealth games (including two heads of service at each games), so it goes without saying - if you need a massage, Tony is your guy.
He’s now open for bookings on Thursday afternoons and Friday mornings at the studio (link in bio to book online or email us at [email protected] and we’ll find you an appointment). #slowlydoesit ✌🏼
